This film is far better than the watered down American remake (why can't they leave perfection alone?) Very highly recommended. The way the central couple are shown to be loving in spite of evident frustrations (Ugo Tognazzi makes an excellent, more restrained foil), and the way the son seems to have turned out such a kind, tolerant individual, place the film way ahead of its time in political terms, even if this wasn't the main point in making it. [English Dubbed] Two of Europe's most virile male stars, Michel Serrault and Ugo Tognazzi, portray two very flamboyant, aging gay gentlemen.

Despite their initial surprise Renato and Albin handle the news well, much better than the young couple expect her overbearing and conservative parents will. The original and best version of this script that Holywood ruined in the remake with Williams,Hackman et al.

Watch for the champagne cork popping scene - probably the funniest piece of cinema ever - and the wonderful timing with the serving of the soup when the stuffy future in-laws come for dinner. Love this movie and wanted to see it again after a long while, as in original French with subtitles. The 2 stars are because the movie itself is brilliant.

One of my favourite films of all time! It does not appear to be synchronised correctly - facial features do not fall in line with the dialogue. I won't go into detail what fun the movie it is since you can read others comments – I am just telling you that if you are considering getting a Blu-ray version of this, and if you have a large TV, you will not regret it. Having watched this film many years ago, I thought I would give it another airing. Sorry, La Cage aux Folles II (1980) isn't available on Netflix France, but is available in a different country. Costumes and Production design too. The comedy is brilliant and the two main actors are superb. I watch this again and again and never tire of it for the kick in the shins it gives to blinkered bigots. For best results set it up in French with subtitles and it is a tribute to the film itself that after a while these just blend in to the whole wonderful package.

Sure this has it's over-the-top moments + characters (Albin's hysterics) but it succeeds at gently poking fun at all of that, and does so with respect and admiration. (The musical has enjoyed a new lease of life on Broadway and in the West End and is far more faithful to the gentle humour of this film).For some a minor niggle will be the fact it is subtitled, but this is far preferable to the dubbed versions... Albin's voice in French is what we want to hear...and tells us more about him than any dubbing could,as camp a delight as you could find.Its farce as it should be-gentle and subtly pointed.Relax,sit back,and enjoy with a glass of wine.
